4 Year B.Sc (Honours or Honours with Research)
The University of Calcutta’s 4‑Year B.Sc. Honours with Research in Computer Science is offered under the Curriculum and Credit Framework (CCF), which is aligned with the UGC’s NEP‑2020 guidelines. This program is designed to provide a comprehensive foundation in computing while gradually introducing advanced topics and research exposure. The first three years focus on core subjects such as programming, data structures, computer architecture, networking, databases, and software engineering, supported by practical labs in C, Java, Python, and digital systems. The final year introduces specialized electives and a research track, where eligible students undertake guided projects in areas such as machine learning, cloud computing, big data analytics, or embedded systems. This research component replaces certain electives, offering hands‑on experience in problem solving and academic inquiry. The program spans eight semesters, with multiple exit options, including a 3‑Year B.Sc. Honours (without research). Graduates are well‑prepared for postgraduate study, Ph.D. programs, and industry careers, making it a balanced pathway between academic depth and professional readiness.
